The President and the Taoiseach will be among those attending the 41-year-old's Requiem Mass in Dundalk.
The father of two was shot dead outside the Lordship Credit Union last Friday night.
His remains will arrive at St Joseph's Redemptorist Church in Dundalk shortly before 12.30pm from this home in Lordship.
Several hundred gardaí from every division in the country will march behind the cortege as it arrives and leaves the church.
Many businesses in the town are expected to close as a mark of respect as the funeral passes by.
A marquee has been erected on the grounds of the church to accommodate the large crowds expected to attend.
President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan will be among those joining the chief mourners - Adrian's wife Caroline, his six-year-old daughter Amy, seven-year-old son Niall, father Hugh and mother Peggy.
Two of his brothers, Colm and Martin, who are also gardaí, will speak at the end of the service.
Chief celebrant Michael Cusack said: "We're prepared for up to 2,000 seated mourners. I'm sure we'll have a huge overflow outside."
He said: "Nobody could have disliked Adrian."
Det Donohoe will be laid to rest in Lordship cemetery, a short distance away from where he was murdered.
