Man in court after UK extradition warrant issued
on 03/01/2013 15:48:38
Thomas Kearney, with a previous address at Talgarth Road in London, was detained in Dun Laoghaire on a European Arrest Warrant.
The British authorities want to put Kearney on trial for the murder of 35-year-old father David Remmer.
He was stabbed at a homeless hostel in Talgarth Road, West Kensington in London on December 13.
Ten days later, an extradition warrant issued by the UK was endorsed by the High Court in Dublin.
Kearney was arrested yesterday at a money transfer shop on Georges Street in Dun Laoghaire.
He was brought before the High Court today where Sergeant Sean Fallon gave evidence that when he informed him why he was being held, Mr Kearney replied "it was in self defence".
There was no application for bail and the 38-year-old was remanded in custody to appear in court again on January 15.
