Dáil committee to discuss 'fracking' plans

Plans to begin "fracking" in areas of the North West will be debated in a Dáil committee today.

Hydraulic Fracturing - also known as "fracking" - is a type of gas exploration that has been criticised for its damaging effects on the environment and surrounding areas.

But supporters say it can create sustainable energy in rural areas, as well as creating jobs.

An international company is planning to practice fracking around Leitrim and Fermanagh.
