Committee wants penalty points for driving while on phone doubled

A Dáil committee wants the penalty points imposed for using a mobile phone while driving doubled to four.

The Oireachtas Transport Committee has been reviewing the entire penalty points system and recommends higher penalties for mobile phone use behind the wheel.

It also suggests that penalty points should not be extended to include non-traffic offences.
