Pensioner killed in collision with truck

A pensioner has been killed in a car crash on the Dublin to Sligo road near Longford.

The 79-year-old man died instantly when the camper van he was travelling in collided with a truck at around 5.20 this evening.

His passenger - a woman in her 60s - was also taken to hospital but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road is closed pending a forensic examination and Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
