Gardaí investigate fatal Cavan accident

Gardaí in Bailieboro, Cavan are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred outside Shercock on the Kingscourt Road at approximately 5pm yesterday.

An 18-year-old male was fatally injured when the van he was driving lost control and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to Cavan General Hospital.

A 17-year-old male passenger was taken to Cavan General Hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.

This stretch of road is currently closed pending completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
