There has been an increase in the number of women applying for payments towards a State pension.
It follows the launch of an information leaflet last year, to make non-working women aware of their entitlements, particularly people like farmers' wives and women involved in a family business.
The Department of Social and Family Affairs says 845 people, mostly women, have applied for pension contributions from the state in the last 12 months.
Minister Mary Hanafin said many women are entitled to the payments and do not realise it.
