The company, which is run by former Labour Party press officer Catherine Heaney says Mr Carey will concentrate on the areas of consultation management, strategy, and public affairs.
Mr Carey worked as a community, equality, and gaeltacht affairs minister, and as drugs minister during his time in power.
The PR firm's chairman is Peter Cassells, a former ICTU general secretary, while ex-Labour press officer Tony Heffernan also works for the company.
"Pat brings with him a wealth of experience in politics, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, and mediation," said Ms Heaney.
"We know he will be a valuable addition to our team."
Mr Carey served as chief whip during a period of almost constant crisis for the Cowen government after the economic collapse took hold from 2008.
Unlike many of his Fianna Fáil ministerial colleagues, Mr Carey did not join what was known as "the chicken run" and refuse to stand at the last general election after the then Government's poll ratings collapsed to an all-time low.
Mr Carey fought for re-election in his Dublin North-West base. The former minister ended up in fifth place in the three-seater constituency as Labour romped home to take two of the seats.
