And who better than evil nuclear billionaire Monty Burns to spot our unemployment levels and use them for his own ends?
In a new episode, Mr Burns is seen reeling from the defeat of the Romney/ Ryan ticket in the recent US presidential election and decides the plebeians need an education on what the 'fiscal cliff' is.
He has an imaginative immigration policy which will allow him to ship in hundreds of "grimy" Irish for his own ends.
"I guess it's time I explain to these good people the upcoming fiscal cliff," says Monty. "Think of the economy as a car, and the rich man as the driver. If you don't give the rich man all the money, he'll drive you over the cliff. It's common sense."
He points out that "rich people feel things more deeply than the common man" before outlining plans for the common Irishman. "I've a progressive proposal to let into this country 200 grimy Irishmen a year. I've got lots of potatoes that need peeling and stables to be mucked out."
Monty's "public service announcement" ends abruptly, with the power plant owner ordering some unseen forces to "execute the cameraman".
With not a mention of drinking or fighting anywhere, our nation's latest appearance in The Simpsons may be something of an improvement of the usual portrayal.
It wasn't that long ago that Family Guy's Peter Griffin visited our shores declaring to his talking dog Brian: "This is quite a country Brian. You know, Ireland has more drunks per capita than people."
