Fatal stabbing linked to sex trade
on 15/10/2012 00:00:00
The victim, who was in his 40s, was originally from Romania and had only moved into the apartment at Connolly St, Cavan Town, in recent days.
The man was living with his partner, who was still in the apartment when the attackers arrived.
The killers fled the scene having inflicted numerous stab wounds. The man was pronounced dead in the apartment.
Dr Marie Cassidy, the state pathologist, conducted a technical examination on the body yesterday. The autopsy has been completed.
There are suspicions the motives for the killing were linked to the sex trade.
Several violent Romanian criminals have established prostitution and trafficking businesses in Ireland in recent years despite closer co-operation between the gardaí and their counterparts in Eastern Europe.
Gardaí have appealed for anybody who was in the Connolly Court area between 10pm and midnight on Saturday to contact them on 049 4368800.
