Hundreds eye jobs at biotech firm's open day
on 13/09/2012 00:00:00
Dr Robert Baffi, executive vice president of technical operations, said they were overwhelmed with the response: "The calibre of applicants we have met is impressive and I'm confident we will build a strong team here in Ireland. This is a very exciting time for BioMarin, and indeed for the Cork region, and we anticipate that additional positions will open later this year."
The global biotech giant, which develops and commercialises drugs to treat rare diseases, is planning to create up to 100 jobs over the next two years.
However, the expansion hinges on the outcome of ongoing clinical drug trials.
That said, it does expect a handful of job openings within a few months.
Yesterday's event gave jobseekers a chance to learn about BioMarin and the jobs that might be available, and to meet some of its managers and core team members, including Dr Baffi and Andy Ramelmeier, vice president of manufacturing and facilities, who outlined what the company does.
New jobs are expected to be in areas such as manufacturing, supply chain and warehousing, quality control, technical services, IT, environmental health and safety, and finance.
