Two killed in market roof collapse

A search for bodies is under way in Argentina, where illegal apartments toppled onto a packed supermarket, collapsing the roof and trapping dozens of shoppers inside.

Authorities in the southern Neuquen say two dead women have been pulled from the wreckage since the market's roof collapsed last night.

Civil defence director Vanina Merlo said six other people remain missing and 14 were injured.

Three truckloads of wreckage have been removed, but it was still too dangerous today to get completely inside the collapsed structure.

Survivor Walter Honorio said the roof folded "like a fan" after the apartments being built illegally next door toppled over and broke a roof beam.

Governor Jorge Sapag decreed three days of mourning as families of the six missing waited at the scene.
