Jordan protests over Syria shelling
on 20/08/2012 10:02:13
Spokesman Sameeh Maaytah said the government summoned the Syrian ambassador in Amman to hand him a letter of protest late yesterday. Amman is awaiting a formal response from Syria, which has yet to comment.
Four shells landed in Jordan yesterday during clashes between the Syrian military and rebel forces on the Syrian side of the border.
Mr Maaytah said Jordan protests over what took place and "will ensure this does not happen again".
The shelling sent four other Jordanians to hospital suffering from panic attacks. They were later discharged. The wounded girl was said to be in a fair condition today.
Last month, Syrian troops killed a six-year-old boy fleeing to Jordan.
