Child dies in gas explosion

In the UK, a child has died in a suspected gas explosion that has destroyed a number of houses in the Oldham area of Manchester.

A second resident is in hospital suffering severe burns.

Search and rescue teams are working with emergency services to go through the rubble with warnings that surrounding buildings are extremely unstable.

National Grid has said that it received a report of a smell of gas this morning.
