Rise in profits for Ford, despite loss-making European operation

Ford has reported a rise in profits despite the poor performance of its European operation, which remains heavily loss-making.

Earnings after tax for the quarter were $1.6bn.

However, the second largest US car maker has warned that it expects to lose around £1.3bn in Europe this year, reflecting its deteriorating sales outlook for the region.
