Increase in number of trips to Ireland in August and October

The total number of trips to Ireland increased by 1.6% to 1,949,600 in the period August - October 2012, CSO figures have revealed.

This represents an overall increase of 29,800 compared to the same period in 2011.

Trips by residents of North America to Ireland increased by 14.9% to 337,200.

The number of visitors from Great Britain decreased by 4.5% to 802,700.

Visitors from European Countries other than Great Britain (Other Europe) increased by 3.3% to 700,500 while visitors from Other Areas increased by 1.7% to 109,300.

The total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the period August - October 2012 increased by 3.1% to 1,835,400.
