Tourist numbers fall by 2%

Visitor numbers to Ireland were down by 2% in the last quarter.

Between June and August more than 2.1 million visitors came here - a decrease of 44,000 compared to the same period 12 months earlier.

Visits from the UK were down by 6% and from the US by 2.8%, but visitor numbers from other European countries increased by 2.1%.

There were more tourists from areas outside Europe too - that market grew by 3.3%.

Meanwhile, the total number of overseas trips made by Irish residents during the three months increased by 1.5% to almost 2.1 million.
