Chambers Ireland has today criticised the national day of protest, saying that it will do nothing to help restore confidence in our economy.
Chambers Ireland deputy chief executive Seán Murphy said: "Today's protests do not help to address the structural deficit that the Exchequer faces. Borrowing between €400m and €500m a week to fund current spending is simply not sustainable."
"If the Unions are really serious about the need to stimulate the economy then they must address the fact that public pay and pensions are crowding out all options to stimulate economic growth.
"This is why we need cuts now as part of our efforts to help restore our competitivenes."
