New Bill to abolish severance payments for politicians
on 22/10/2013 12:59:14
The legislation will mean former Ministers and TDs will not be given severance pay when they are kicked out of Government or lose their jobs.
The Bill, published by the Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin this lunchtime, also cuts the "party leaders allowance" paid to political parties.
Parties will now have to report to the public ethics watchdog, SIPO, telling them how their funding is spent.
