Reilly in the dark over numbers to lose medical card benefits

Dr Reilly said €113m will be saved by improving the "accuracy" of the medical card system, while more than 35,000 pensioners will be downgraded to a GP-only card due to a lower income threshold.
The Department of Health has earmarked €666m in savings next year, in what the Health Minister described as "the toughest Budget his department has had to date".
Dr Reilly has also signalled that his department will need a supplementary Budget as it will overspend by as much as €200m this year.
He said: "I've stated that I can't rule out an overrun. At the moment the overrun will certainly be under €200m, possibly nearer €150m.
"However, we have a couple of months left to run and nobody can predict what is going to happen over the next three months in terms of the demands on the health service, and we are entering the winter period."
