Enda Kenny today said the Department of Social Protection is performing well in getting people off the live register.
Last night the Taoiseach had expressed frustration with the slow pace of reforms within the social welfare system.
But this afternoon he said every minister had to play their part to reduce public spending, and each was expected to "measure up".
"The Live Register is no longer seen as a long list of disillusioned people," he said.
"Where there is confidence and experience, they should be motivated and given the opportunity to get back into the world of work."
"I work very closely with minister Burton ... all ministers are required here to measure up in the national effort to get our country back to work."
