44% of people are in favour of removing the upper house while 27% are against with as many as 21% saying they don't know, according to the IPSOS/MRBI poll in today's Irish Times. Some 8% said that they did not intend to vote.
The referendum to set up a new Court of Appeal also looks set to pass with 76% in favour and 24% against when the undecided are excluded.
The poll shows that the savings generated by abolishing the Seanad is the biggest motivating factor for those supporting the referendum.
