Complaints silence church bells in Dublin

The bells of St Bartholomew's Church, which rang out over Ballsbridge in Dublin for more than 130 years, fell silent following a warning from Dublin City Council.
The bells chimed every 15 minutes and the church was warned by the council that it faced fines of €3,000 if it didn't stop them ringing at night.
A mechanism to silence the bells between 11pm and 7am failed on several occasions, so the decision was taken by Vicar Andrew McCroskery to stop the clock and silence the bells.
