USI to launch Seanad 'no' vote campaign

The country will go to the polls next month to decide if the upper house of parliament should be abolished
USI President Joe O'Connor said the Seanad should be improved, not scrapped.
"A lot of talk has been about how undemocratic it is and how it's not opened up," he said.
"Without the need for any type of referendum, legislative reform could take place.
"(This) could allow young people a much greater role, whereby every graduate in the country has a vote on a graduate panel; every student in the country has a vote on the education panel; and under-represented groups such as Travellers should have the opportunity to be automatically nominated by one of the Taoiseach's appointed nominees of the Seanad."
