Patients association calls for penalties on poor-hygiene hospitals

The call comes on the back of reports published yesterday by the health watchdog, HIQA, which found that a number of hospitals around the country, including Dublin's Beaumont had fallen seriously short of basic hygiene guidelines.
The reports found that patient lives were being put at risk as a result of number of failures.
Stephen McMahon of the IPA said penalties need to be put in place for breaches.
