Groups form alliance to fight cuts in education budget

A number of the groups have joined forces ahead of the Budget to form the National Alliance and they are urging the Government to halt any plans to cut spending in primary schools.
It comes as new figures reveal that almost a third of children are now in class sizes of 30 or more, when the EU average is 20.
President of the Irish National Teachers Organisation, Brendan O'Sullivan, said that figure will only increase further if there are more cuts.
Mr O'Sullivan said: "You cannot give the attention to all 35 children that you can give to the European average of only 20.
"We have less than 10% of children who are in classes of the European average.
"What the minister is now talking about is making more cuts in education. There is no more low-hanging fruit in education."
