Union calls for €9.20 minimum wage to match inflation

The trade union UNITE said the wage hasn't risen in line with inflation and workers are losing out.
Its pre-budget submission also calls for higher PRSI for workers earning over €100,000 a year, and for higher capital gains taxes.
"We're also saying that workers at the bottom of this system - on the minimum wage- need to be increased to €9.20 an hour … nobody's going to become a millionaire on that level of earnings," the union's general secretary, Jimmy Kelly, said.
"But they need to be lifted up in line with inflation, and that money goes straight back directly into local economies."
