They have completed tests at the site of last week's alleged chemical weapons attack in Damascus and will head to America to prepare their report.
It could take two weeks to finalise.
The team's departure increases the likelihood of an American strike against the Syrian regime.
Alexander Lukashevich from Russia's foreign ministry said threats of military action by the US against Syria are unacceptable.
"Unilateral use of force without authorisation of the UN security council, no matter how limited it is, would be a clear violation of the international law or lead to a new round of new confrontation and new causalities," he said.
"This should not be aloud."
