Weather warnings in place for eight counties

Met Eireann still have a weather warning in place for counties Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Louth, Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow and Meath.

More snow and ice are expected tonight and tomorrow with the cold weather expected to last for at least another week.

Gardaí are advising motorists to take extra care in areas that experienced flooding yesterday with surface water on a number of routes.

AA Roadwatch is advising drivers to make only essential journeys.

About 1,000 homes in the North were also without water this evening.

Northern Ireland Electricity said 29,000 homes were still waiting to be reconnected - and it could be days before they all have power.
