US Air Force trainer found guilty of raping former trainee

A US Air Force trainer at a Texas base has been found guilty by a court-martial of raping a former trainee and could receive up to life imprisonment without parole.

Staff Sgt Eddy Soto had previously pleaded guilty to five charges, including having sex with a woman trainee and the wife of a male trainee.

Prosecutors also claimed he raped a woman who had flown from California to San Antonio to visit him on the condition of no sex.

Thirty-two Lackland air force base instructors have been investigated, with six convicted of misconduct.

Investigators say more than 40 women had inappropriate contact with instructors, and were either sexually harassed or raped.
