Price rises making fuel poverty 'a serious problem'
on 11/03/2013 07:50:18
Experts from Europe and north America are gathering in Dublin today to discuss and influence European policy on fuel poverty.
Since the beginning of the recession, fuel prices have risen dramatically and dependence on fuel allowances has jumped by 15% to 25%.
Charlie Roarty of Energy Action said the issue has to be addressed.
Mr Roarty said: " More money has to be put into the 'Better Energy, Warmer Homes' scheme. Obviously there is €20m being put into it this year, but it is important that much more money is put in to address this problem because this is a serious problem.
"Carbon Tax has added to the problems of the people who have the most inefficient heating systems."
