Syrian President willing to enter talks with rebels

Syria's President, Bashar al-Assad, and his supporters have signalled they are ready to enter talks with all parties in a bid to bring an end to the conflict in the war-torn country.

Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem has said they are ready for dialogue with all who want dialogue, including those who are carrying arms.

The announcement came during a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov this morning.

The Syrian war has been raging for nearly two years with UN official figures placing the death toll at 70,000.
