Motorist accused of dangerous driving, causing cyclist's death

A 39 year-old man has gone on trial today accused of dangerous driving causing the death of a 23 year-old cyclist in Monaghan two years ago.

Zigimantas Gridziuska from Ardross Ave, Carrickmacross has admitted leaving the scene of an accident on the N2, but denies dangerous driving causing death.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was told Shane O'Farrell died instantly after being knocked off his bike while training for a triathlon.

The trial heard crash investigators concluded that the car involved in the accident was travelling at up to 100 kilometres per hour, and no brake marks were found at the scene.
