FSAI: ALDI lasagne and bolognese test positive for horse meat
on 08/02/2013 21:33:22
These products were on sale in Ireland and were withdrawn by ALDI earlier this week following an alert from its French supplier, Comigel.
The FSAI is advising Irish consumers to check if they have purchased this product and if they have, not to eat it, but to return it to the point of purchase.
"ALDI is testing the products for the presence of phenylbutazone and it is unknown at this point in time if these products pose a food safety risk," an FSAI statement said.
Phenylbutazone is a commonly used medicine in horses and horses treated with it are not allowed to enter the food chain.
