Lindsay Sandiford, 56, from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, was convicted last week of taking more than 10lbs of the drug on to the island.
The sentence came despite the prosecution only requesting 15 years in jail. She was accused of damaging the image of Bali as a tourism destination and weakening the government's drug prevention program.
A court official said his office received the appeal request today through the head of Kerobokan Penitentiary where Sandiford is being held.
Sandiford says she was forced to carry the drugs by a gang that threatened to hurt her children.
Indonesia has very strict anti-drug laws and most of the more than 40 foreigners on its death row were convicted of drug charges.
