Gathering events in Ireland among top attractions in US holiday poll

A poll of more than 1,000 Americans found that visiting Ireland for The Gathering was one of their top holiday choices.

While many Americans holiday at home, the USA Today Gallup poll found that 36% of those taking a holiday said they would be packing a passport this year.

Ireland was one of their top choices.

USA Today has declared Ireland a "buzz-worthy destination" for 2013, and adds: "What better way to banish the Emerald Isle's economic blues than by inviting the estimated 70 million who claim Irish ancestry to return to the Auld Sod for a bit of frivolity?"
