Senior Catholic clergy to air worries over proposed abortion law
on 07/01/2013 07:13:19
The committee will hold a series of public meetings on the new legislation between Tuesday and Thursday.
The cross party Oireachtas Committee on Health will produce a report before the end of the month.
Meanwhile, senior Catholic clergy are preparing to bring their concerns over proposed abortion legislation directly to Government ministers.
The Government plans to introduce a combination of legislation and regulation to deal with the issue of abortion where the life of the mother is in danger.
A meeting has also been scheduled for the end of next week which will discuss a number of issues, and the new laws and regulations are expected to be on the agenda.
The country's Catholic Archbishops reacted to the proposals drawn up before Christmas by saying they would "pave the way for the direct and intentional killing of unborn children".
