New course to help unemployed start their own business

The founders of a new training programme are looking for people who want to set up their own business.

QED Training is part of a €20m FÁS initiative, which was launched by the Tánaiste and Minister for Education in December.

There are 90 free places available for those who have been unemployed for more than 12 months.

"Our initiative is [for] people not just to get a job, but to build a business," said QED Training general manager Noel Davidson.

"They may have a great idea, they may be long-term unemployed and want to see the feasibility of this idea, would it work as a chance to start their own business, and we take them from that level right the way up to becoming self-employed."
