Sixty one children dead in Ivory Coat stampede

At least 61 people were killed in a stampede when new year celebrations turned into a panicked stampede in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

State radio and a fire department rescue worker, who refused to give his name, said many more people were injured.

The incident occurred at about 2am local time.

State media in the Ivory Coast says all of the people killed were children.

The victims,aged between 8 and 15, were at a fireworks display and concert outside a stadium in the capital.
