The Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Alumni Survey shows that nearly 13,000 jobs were created by people setting up their own business in the 2012.
The study also found that 75% of respondents increased employment, with businesses generating in excess of €15bn in revenue.
Frank O'Keeffe of Ernst and Young is confident business will continue to grow for Irish entrepreneurs in 2013.
"Well, I think next year, like this year, is tough for pretty much everybody," he said.
"But the Irish entrepreneur will continue to be very innovative, develop new ideas, new products, see where niche markets are, and really go and try to expand their businesses.
"But they don't do it alone. I think what you find from the Irish entrepreneur now, and how Irish entrepreneurs and businesses have grown up, is that they're really looking for high-quality people to come in and work with them, not just here in Ireland, but also around the world."
