Number of Garda checkpoints to increase this weekend

Gardaí are to increase the number of checkpoints around the country this weekend as part a major road safety campaign.

A total of 141 people have lost their lives in road accidents so far this year, six less than the same period last year.

However, six people died within an 18-hour period last weekend, including two young children in Co Galway.
