Man dies after Down assault (updated 1.45pm)

A man is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Ballynahinch in Co Down.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The attack happened at around 12.45am this morning in the Dromore Street area of the town.

Detectives in Downpatrick have appealed for witnesses.

Update1.45pm: The victim in this incident has since died, and police have opened a murder investigation.
