Dundon begins action over prison segregation
on 25/09/2012 16:20:45
The 34-year-old from Lenihan Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick was jailed for six years last April by the Special Criminal Court for intimidation and making a threat to kill.
Dundon claims he has been unfairly segregated in the D1 block of Cloverhill Prison which is usually reserved for psychatric prisoners and inmates who have infringed prison rules.
He has been told by the Cloverhill authorities that he is being kept away from the mainstream prison population for his own safety.
Dundon also says he is being deprived of normal visits with his wife and children and has instead received 15 minute screened visits.
However, Ms Justice Maureen Clark was told that Dundon has been allowed one contact visit with his family since these proceedings were initiated in July.
His lawyers want a full judicial review of his segregation which they claim is in breach of prison procedures. The case has been put back until tomorrow.
