New laws to enable people to track online personal data

The Data Protection Commissioner Billy Hawkes has said new EU laws due to come into force in January will make it easier to track your personal information online.

The regulations should increase transparency surrounding what happens to details that are shared on the internet.

It will also allow people to delete information about themselves if a company does not need it anymore.

Writing in today's Irish Examiner, Mr Hawkes said the changes will allow people to be more confident when shopping online, using new technology or sharing information.
