Data Protection Commissioner involved after Clare's household-charge 'proof' policy
on 18/09/2012 19:52:52
Both Clare and South Tipperary County Councils confirmed earlier that the payments of student grants could be delayed or withheld altogether if applicants have not paid the €100 tax.
Many other local authorities - including, South County Dublin and Cavan County Council, have said that they are considering similar actions - of asking people to provide proof that they have paid the household charge - before applying for any local authority grant.
Dozens of third level students held a protest outside the offices of Clare County Council earlier today - in opposition to this move.
