Prices up 0.6% in August

Prices in Ireland are continuing to rise, official figures have revealed today.

The report from the Central Statistics Office showed prices rose by 0.6% in the last month alone, year-on-year the cost of consumer goods has grown by 2%.

The biggest changes in the last year were in the area of education, up 9.6%, mainly due to an increase in third-level fees.

Transport costs are up 8.3%, driven by an increase in airfares and higher fuel costs.

These were offset by a falling mortgage costs and a decrease in the cost of recreational and sporting services.

Prices increased by 0.2% in August of 2011.
