Seven dead in China earthquake

At least seven people have died and more than 20 were injured in an earthquake in south-west China today.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the quake hit Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.

The US Geological Survey said it registered a magnitude of 5.6 at a depth of 6.1 miles.

Xinhua said the earthquake hit the border area of the Yiliang county of Yunnan and the Weining county of Guizhou.

It did not give any other details.
