Hundreds expected at Anthony Ward funeral

Hundreds of mourners are expected to gather for the funeral of eight-year-old Anthony Ward from Co Cork later today.

The young boy was found dead in his bedroom in his home at Harrison Place in Charleville on Monday morning.

A post mortem examination was carried out. It is understood the young boy died as a result of asphyxiation.

His mother, 43-year-old Diane Ward, appeared before Limerick District Court yesterday evening, charged with her son's murder.

The court heard she made no reply when charged. She was remanded in custody to appear in court again on September 11 and a psychiatric report has been ordered.

Anthony will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Charleville after a mass of the angels in Holy Cross Church at 2.30pm today.
