Man and son die in Majorca drowning tragedy

A British man and his seven-year-old son have drowned in the sea off Majorca in Spain.

The father was trying to rescue the boy, who had been swept away on the island's south east coast yesterday.

The child's mother ran to a nearby hotel to get help, but the father and son could not be saved.

The tragedy happened in a small cove called Cala Antena.

A spokeswoman for the UK Foreign Office said: "We are aware of the tragic deaths of two British nationals in Majorca on the first of September. We are providing consular assistance to the family."
